An “Open” Fantasy Story Concept

This last weekend I found myself digging through some boxes of old books in the garage looking for a specific book. Unfortunately, I didn’t find it. On the other hand, I did find a handful of books and old journals that I decided to return to my bookshelf. As I was flipping through one journal, I came across an idea for a story that I once had, but never fully fleshed-out. I have since gone in a different direction. I am building the structure of an entirely different story. Therefore, I am going to throw this idea out into the ether.

If you are looking for story concept that you can build from, and write a best-seller, maybe this idea will appeal to you. Here it is:

Genre:
I envisioned this “seedling” as a ‘pure fantasy,’ or possibly a ‘modern fantasy’ storyline. This would be a fantasy-styled story that, in some respects, parallels an individuals journey of discovery, spiritual growth, inward-upward-outward power, temptation, love and community conflict, and battle for life. While the concept and and element ‘phrasing’ runs along Judeo-Christian lines, it doesn’t have to develop in that direction.

Concept:
At the birth of every individual, their “gifting/calling” and the power potential of that gift is visible within the ‘spiros.’ While every individual has some ‘gifting,’ some who are blessed/cursed have the ability to tangibly wield/control their gifts, both within the spiros and the physical realms of reality. From the moment of birth, for both the protagonists, and antagonists, a battle is waged, in a sometimes subtle, sometimes blatant fashion, for the fulfillment, direction, and control of each persons gift. “There shall be twelve in every age…” 12 extra-anointed, spiritual, gifted, uniquely powerful, leaders of expansion, vision, and mission or destruction.

In the Mirror-part 3

Mr. Chanon led me up to the deck of the huge ship and I gazed over the vast expansion of the deep blue ocean. “It’s so big.” I whispered. “Indeed it is. We’ve been sailing for a long time. I forgot how long.” A voice next to me said in return. I whirled around and saw a girl about 4 inches taller than me, with jet black hair that fell around her shoulders. She looked nothing like me, but the one quality we shared was our forest green eyes.

Hers looked wild and free, like an eagle’s. Mine probably looked scared and lonely, but that was how I was feeling right about then. She looked me up and down, but didn’t frown, like most people. Her eyes glinted with mischief as she asked me,”You’re not one of the pilgrims are you. Are you a stow away? “Of course not! But if I told you where I came from, you probably wouldn’t believe me.” I said. “Just tell me. You’re making me feel much too curious.” Continue reading

It Was Only A Dream…..

One day i woke up in a meadow. It had tulips every were in all sorts of colors. It was peaceful and just perfect. I heard laughter and music, so i went to find out what it was. I came upon a little village. There were people dancing and singing. Everybody was just happy. But suddenly that happiness was taking away when a dark stormy cloud came out of nowhere. A evil queen came out of that cloud. Everybody was scared. They ran and hid. She took everything from this village. She left nothing. I had to do something about it. So i followed the cloud to a dark castle. There was guards everywhere so i had to find another way in. I saw a window not to high above. So i Started to climb the side of the rocky castle. As i was climbing the side i heard a soft cry. Continue reading

Community

ChalkerLife

Eyes wet with desperation,

I search for solace;

community.

Legs leaden from loneliness,

I despair of company;

community.

Hands trembling with weight,

I can not but share;

community.

Life

A question that breaths and blows

like a flickering candle among starlit snows.

A mystery and marvel that raves and rants

as thinkers ponder and academics chant.

A ripple that swims and seeks ever wider

larger, larger, it wrinkles brighter.

A simple smile seen in eyes spread wide

of a child who trusts in arms held tight.

These images quest and soar in flight

as my mind awakes in the morning light.
